Dear compatriots!
On January 20, 1991 in Crimea held was a referendum where most of its residents voted for the restoration of Crimean autonomy. Taking its result into consideration, on February 12, 1991 Ukrainian parliament adopted a law on the restoration of the Crimean Autonomous Republic.
I am convinced that it is the only legitimate referendum in Crimea, which we must recognize. And exclusively this expression of will should be the basis for our policy concerning Crimea. None pseudoplebiscite under the muzzles of Russian machine guns may not be an excuse for cynical occupation of the peninsula by troops of a foreign state.
In Crimea today our fellow citizens have remained, and they are forced to endure all the negative effects of life under occupation. Therefore, we must do all possible to return the peninsula. We also must take care of the persons displaced from Crimea, who could not or did not want to live under occupation. This is our civic duty.
I believe that the Autonomous Republic of Crimea will again become an integral part of the independent Ukraine, and thousands of our citizens will return to their small motherland - to their homes. This is one of our most important tasks.
